Reflection on Identity

I must admit, I recently discovered GOMI for the first time this week. It's one of those things you wish you would have never done. It was so easy to get lost in all of the criticism, hate and grouchiness of these internet trolls. The funniest thing is that they put down bloggers all day long for spending so much time blogging and not in the "real" world, when in fact they sit wasting their hours away, making unkind comments about other people.

It's sad because the blogosphere has always been a place of support  (at least in my opinion) and when you have sites like that, it really just starts to ruin a good thing. I think perhaps blogging is hard because it is one of those fine line things. It's a pretty new hobby so we can't look back on the mistakes of those before us. We're still experimenting and figuring things out, if you will.

I remembered something last night. After all of this online forum craziness, it really hit me. It doesn't matter. There, I said it- haha! I can't worry about what they have to say- they're sad people who spend their time hurting others. It's like anything else in life- you just can't worry about what other people think. Haters gonna' hate. But above all, I am SO grateful that I know my identity in Jesus Christ. I am not defined by my blog, or by what people say. I am a daughter of the king. No matter what happens, he will always love me. And he will always love you.

So that's my encouragement for all of you. Just don't worry! Blog what makes you happy, what's fun and what's inspiring! Ignore the nasty comments, and be yourself! You are a perfect, beautiful creation in Christ. And that, is all the matters.

Ephesians 2:10
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

  2. Alex,
This is so encouraging, and something that we all need to remember. Sometimes we just need to ignore other people's comments whether they're on the Internet or not, and just focus on what God has to say. People may say someone is ugly, but God sees them as beautiful. People might see someone as an outcast, but God sees that person as a child of royalty. People may altogether hate someone, but God loves that person and every person more than they could ever know. You are completely right about this. Just let haters hate. They'll continue with their hating. And if everyone just ignores hater's comments, than the hater will be the only one that is miserable.
Thank you so much for this, Alex!

  3. Oh Alex,
I remember when you have guest post interviewing and she said something encouraging for the blog beginner. That's one of many reasons to keep me blogging.
As for my first motivation to blogging that is to share people how good the Lord is, and how beautiful this life in this crazy world.
I will have to remember always to ignoring "rude" people and be myself in Christ. It's great to be a girl and we put our confidence in the Lord that loves us.
Don't be worried about haters you still have me here and another followers who love your works here.
Thank you for sharing. I LOVE IT!

    Love and hugs,
    Delvalina

  4. I am not sure what GOMI is (nor I am thinking, is it something I want to know), but I love this reminder. It is God we are striving towards, not others. Great reminder.

  5. I have no idea what GOMI is, but I truly believe that if there are people who are willing to put down others for how they are or what they post so openly on their blogs, then it is because the people of GOMI are probably hiding something they are struggling with in their own life. Reflecting on others makes them feel better. It is funny how lately there are all these anti-bullying things while people will do this! It is wonderful to know that I love Jesus and have Him to guide me and mold me!! Yey!

  6. Beautiful words Alexandra :) I've know GOMI for a while. I looked them up once when a thread was started about a blogger I read and she took a blogging break because of it. Some of their remarks, to me, have a base of right in them but the majority of what I see on the actual forums (and not the main website) is sometimes SO bad, I can't even take it when it's not even about me. Good that you know better than to believe the words they say and that you are confident enough to put it down beside you! You have an inspiring attitude :) xo

    1. Thank you for the encouragement, Nikki! I can admit, it shook me up a bit at first, but I really just felt like God reminded me of what really matters. I'm glad this was able to be some bit of inspiration to you!

  7. This was such a sweet post. There are so many mean people in the world who find happiness in bringing others down with them. You just got to rise above and keep on keepin on :]
