Time to Listen

At one time or another every Christian will have a dispute with someone of the same faith. Same faith? Yup- think about it. Pre-tribulation versus post-tribulation, chosen by God or man choosing God, etc. The list goes on. Honestly, for me it all gets confusing. Everyone has opinions. This is probably a fairly controversial topic to be bringing up on a blog, but I'm going to give you my thoughts anyway.

Ready? I don't lean one way or the other! Let me explain. For the most part, both sides of these kinds of arguments have some sort of Biblical scripture to back up their ideas! For me, unless the Bible says it in plain English, either idea can be true. I know a lot of people are probably shaking their head at me right now- haha. That's just my thinking.

This isn't to say that I think opinions are a bad thing. But I also think that a lot can be gained from listening. James 1:19 says,
"Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;"

It's fine to have opinions! Just make sure that you don't shut out the ideas of others in the same faith- if they have some biblical truth to their point, take the time to listen.

  1. Very nice spiritual blog.
I write a blog which I have entitled “Accordingtothebook” and I’d like to invite you to follow it.

I didn’t see a follow widget on this site, but if you put one up...I will gladly follow you publicly as well.
If you wish, click on “dashboard” or “design” on the top right of your main blog…then click on “layout” on the left side of the page, “add a gadget” on the right side column…that takes you to the "basics" list. On the left of that list is a "more Gadgets" option. Click on that one and scroll down to the one that simply says “FOLLOW"

  2. This post is a must read!

I agree with you :) this reminded me of congregations in the Bible that Paul wrote. They disputed one another just because of different gifts that God have given them. But Paul said we're One body and Christ as Head :) we complete one each other by respect and listen one another.

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thank you so much for sharing this, Alexandra! I definitely relate to your point of view with this subject. I don't think it's worth creating conflict over little opinions about specifics - as you said "if they have some biblical truth to their point, take time to listen."

Sometimes, however, I feel like I take this viewpoint because I haven't taken the time to decide how I feel or what I believe about a certain issue or topic - do you ever feel this way? It's not that I think I need to argue or fight about what I believe is right, it's more that I haven't even taken the time to think about it. Does that make sense?

    Thanks again for sharing!
I love reading these posts :)

    1. Yes, I totally understand where you are coming from. I know I am like that about some issues. Which brings me to the point that it's good to do your own research too! You don't always want to take everything people say for granted. We also need to do our own studying and see what the Lord reveals to us personally. So now that I've gone off on a rabbit trail ( haha) Yes, I see what you mean :-)

  4. I actually totally agree, any additionals people choose to do out of love for God is totally fine and its great to hear!! but if its not specifically mentioned in the bible, you shouldn't put sooo much energy into it! focus on the things it does say! (may have just gone off on my own little tangent hehe...) love your blog! thanks for the comment!
