Everything to God in Prayer

I was thinking today about how incredibly amazing it is that we can come to God at any time, and for any reason. I love that we don't have to wait for the perfect moment- He is always waiting eagerly to hear from us. Whether we be asking for forgiveness, prayer for others, or even just having a shoulder to cry on in difficult times, God will always be available and ready to have meaningful conversation with us. To top it all off, we tend to become so distracted by every day life, that we forget or push aside our time with the Lord. Yet He is still listening for us when we want to talk to Him. It reminds me of the hymn, What a Friend We Have in Jesus. Sometimes I think I prefer hymns over other worship songs, simply because their words are so rich, thoughtful and full of meaning. I would encourage you all to read through the words below and really digest them. It's a beautiful song, with a beautiful message that should truly be taken to heart.

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
  3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

  1. I love that hymn so much. Have you heard the more upbeat fun version of it. . .I think it was by "the sing team" which is grand. I led worship at church with that version hehe.
I think that many times the hymns are great because they focus so much on worshiping God rather than how Jesus can help us. . .which I think more of those contemporary songs are about. . .just praising Him for who He is rather than how he can help us or got us through things. This song in particular reminds us that no matter how hard things get, he is worth praying to and going to for all things because of who he is.
